I just aquired two angels from a customer who kept them long term in a 10 gallon tank with several other tank mates. She said one was definitely female. I put them into a 55 and now one butts and bites at the other. Is this normal behavior? Stress? Mating? Help! Here is a pic of the two.

they may just be acclimating to the new surroundings and after all they are cichlids and that is cichlid behaviour

Thanks everyone. Just worried. Never had much luck with angels and hadn't planned on these.

I have had my angels for a while. When I got them they where small and they where able to still lay eggs that small. Now all they do is fight, every day is the same thing. Does any one know why the change in behavior?

i guess a tank is an artificial environment. maybe fighting now is a strategy for genetic recombination i.e. rejecting a former partner and looking for a new one. maybe separate them for a while then put them back together?

i think if they are both males. or a non mating pair. they may have enuff room now to where claiming turff is their thing.

my mating pair claim half of the 55 while the other 2 males claim the other half.

i've been meaning to put it on you tube. they shake at eachother and nip. and one swims off.
