Angel fish growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unlike a lot of fish that are measured in inches from nose to tail, young angels are "measured" in currency to include only the body size and not the fins. LOL For instance, I bought 20 pea sized angels, who grew to dime size, them nickel size, then quarter size and finally half dollar size. Beyond half dollar they use inches to talk about the diameter of the fish since they are pretty rounded. With frequent water changes of 50% every day or two, grow early on is explosive. I got my pea size angels to half dollar in a little under two months (that is getting them to over 6x their original size). After half dollar, they slow down quite a bit. Proper care of angelfish will generally result in it reaching its roughly 6" diameter in 10-12 months.

LOL That would complicate things. :)

Well you understand the general premise of how we in the states relate them to coin size for measurements. Just be aware that growth for the first few months will be pretty quick until they around 3" in diameter (I will let you do the conversion to centimeters LOL), which will take 3-4 months. Then they will slow down and take another 8+ months to reach their ultimate 6-7" diameter.

I found that mine grew at different rates. Some varieties are quicker than others.

Feed good quality food, and regularly, and they should do well.
