Hello,

I'm wondering how many Angels I can have in a 29 or 50 gallon. I want to do an Amazon theme with enough Angels so none of them are picked on too much, a bunch of cory cats, and a school of tetras that are big enough not to be eaten by the Angels and at the same time won't nip the Angels' fins.

Ideas? Ideas for setup/filtration also welcome.

Thanks,
Fry

I would say that you could keep 2 in a 29 and about 4 or more in a 50.
I would go with a school of 6 Panda Corys. And about 5 or so congo tetra.

Don't take my word about the congo tetra have had no experice with them so unknown if they are fin nippers but must be a planted tank if you are going to do it the right way. I have no ideas on filtration so your lost there. Please post pics when it's in setup stage would love to see. Good Luck

I would be left with one if I got two. I was hoping for some advice coming from personal experiences...

Presumably "BichirAddict" meant that in the 29 just buy a small group (5 or 6) and hope that two pair off before they reach maturity, then rehome/return the rest. Then you could add the corys, tetras, whatever else is quick enough to keep out of the way of the pair of angels.

Not a bad setup, and if they breed you can just yank the eggs so you won't need to worry about overloading the tank or them getting too protective of their fry.

I don't really want to get anything that I'd have to get rid of later.

when i wuz little my mom kept 2 angels and a lot of tankmates in a 29g. i have little experince with angels but i say get 3 or 2 with tankmates in the 29g

I have a pair of semi- large angels in a 29g that are laying eggs every other week. Due to that they are hard on small tetras when they get in the mood. So far I've tried schools of emporers, cardinals, midas and diamond tetras in there (one school at a time of course) with no deaths or major damage to the tetras, however the wee-sized characins were often cowering behind the plants because the angels wouldn't leave them alone. Now I have 12 gold tetras in with the angels and I couldn't be happier. The angels can't touch them because they are much faster swimmers than all the previously mentioned tetras so they rarely cower in the tank unless there is breeding activity on the angelfishes part. Best of all, zero shredded tetra fins for the entire time I've had them (about 6 months now). To sum it up, gold tetras are the greatest small fish to put in with a pair of breeding angels imo. Most others don't seem to work that well.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Here are my three in a 20, thought they would be ok as ive had lots of angels in my time, but i had an angry one
