Would a pair of Breeding Angels (not interested in fry) work out in a 125 gallon with a pair of Chocolate Cichlids (everyone is the same size) ? Looking for opinions from the learned membership here....thanks in advance.
A 125 is pretty big for 4 fish, so it could work. Try it for a while and see what happens. The Chocolates might be too aggressive for the Angles if they decide they want the whole tank. You said they are all the same size; but what size is that? If they are all very young and grow up together you'll have a better chance than if you put 4 older bigger fish together. Also, if the Chocolates are male and female it could be a problem if they decide to breed. If you have some good cover and sight barriers you should be able to get away with it in a 125. Try adding a dozen Buenos Aries Tetras or something similar (big and fast) as dither and Go for it. BTW big well cared for Angles are beautiful fish. Good luck!
Moved them last night and everyone is getting along great (especially after getting rid of the bonehead Firemouths)!!!...BTW...it's not just the Chocolates that are in the tank...but they were the ones I was worried about....this is what's in the tank now:
2 Chocolate Cichlid
2 Super Red Severum
2 Angelfish
2 Red Tail Botia
1 Common Pleco
They should do okay, just make sure there are plenty of hiding places and long thin weed and twigs that the bulky cichlids can't get into. If anything, the severums are more a problem, my gold severum almost killed my favourtie angelfish when it was 3/4 it's size.
