Angel Ray

Hey all,

The first fish I wanted was a stingray. Over the past couple years I've been researching them to learn as much as I can before getting one.

Today I was at the LFS and was shocked to see a beautiful little ray in the Marine section. She was about 4 inches or so with a pale, sandy color and an distinctive fluke? on the tail. They called her an Angel Ray, but unable to find that Name, found this photo which is fairly close.

I had a few questions for those of you w/experience. Is this ray a good choice for beginners? What are the tank requirements? I was told at the store, their 40Gal breeder would be wide enough as would their 90Gal. Online I saw everywhere from 75 to 200. I've also seen descriptions from easy to expert only. Anyone have one of these rays? Also, if I were to get her, would rays do well with Porcupine Puffers? Mandarins? Lion fish?

I would say 180g is still your tank minimum, even though these Salty rays stay smaller than their FW counterparts..

The main reason for larger water volume is water quality.. It is much harder to maintain the water quality of a saltwater tank, and much easier to overstock a saltwater tank.

As for tankmates, I wouldn't reccomend any of those fish as they might be problematic with the Ray. Lots of pokey things, especially in a smaller tank, could be bad.. Maybe tankmates like that would be good in 240g+, however they are high bio-load tankmates and I wouldn't suggest any tanksize smaller than that if you plan on putting them togethor..

Water quality.. water quality.. water quality..

Thats the most important thing.
