what tank would be the best for this i was thinking of a 20 gallon to hold the breeding pair and then a 10 gallon for hatching the eggs. would this be enough space? also how many angelfish should i start off with to get a pair and how big would they start pairing off at? also should i change my water parameters at all to breed or will the tap water be fine?

Usually a good way to make pair of is to buy some individuals and let them grow up together. But thats takes time though.

I have cut and pasted this from a thread a while ago saves me typing it in again as I say this is my dads method

right my dad was very successful in breading angles so good that he used to supply my mates shop used to always have 200 fish survive from a spawning. This was his method he used to get 4-5 angles from different shops or from friends in a 3 ft a fully grown pair of Angels with 200-300 fry to herd around would be pretty cramped in anything smaller. A peace of slate is propped up either end. then he had to wait to see who paired up he would then whip the other fish out and these would pair for life.sure way to acquire a true breeding pair of Angelfish is to purchase a proven pair from a breeder dear but only need 2 not 5 Hatching should occur in about 36 to 48 hours depending on the temperature the ones my dad had were always good parents the first spawning could be a little hit or miss but after that no problems. When they hatched we fed them on diet of newly hatched Brine shrimp for 4 weeks 2- 3 times a day then chopped Tubifex chopped fine with a scalpel and crushed flake.
They do best with temperatures between 78-82F also don't mined hard water and with pH's ranging upwards of 6.8 this once again is how my dad did it and I dare say there will be other ways and possible saying this is junk but I have seen it work time and time again hope this is a help but the book recommends Soft (0.6 to 1.2 dH), slightly acid (pH 6.5 to 6.9), successful breeding have occurred in pH 6.8.

Hope it helps

I would buy a dozen or so about nickel size, and raise them in a 55g or larger, they would start pairing off when the body (not counting fins) got around 3" long. I was not trying to raise them so I would harvest the pairs after they first laid eggs and sell them. People pay good money for proven pairs in good condition.

yea i saw some site selling breeding pairs for like $300

do i need to remove the eggs or will the angelfish take care of the fry

I've been breeding good quality Angelfish here in the UK, I use breeding cubes 18"x18"x18" approx 90L to house a breeding pair, using breeding cones or artificial plants. I would purchase 12 young angel fish approx 6 months old, you should then obtain a few pairs, after 9 months.

Depends on the parents, good Angelfish pairs, will nurse the fry, and will not eat the eggs or fry. Most commercial breeders, remove the eggs and fry from the parents.

Have a look at my blog http://andysworld.org.uk/ at my diary of the fish house.
