Last year I bought an angelfish baby. It was in a 20 gallon tank and it grew up pretty quick and I moved the fish to a 38 gallon about four months ago. Now it lives with a gourami 3 kribensis 4 cory cats and few zebra danios. Today I noticed that its fighting with the gourami as the gourami tries to come close to him. As I was focusing on the angel and its behavior I noticed that it actually laid eggs on the back wall of the fish tank. And its guarding the eggs. As the gourami comes close to the angel it tries to scare him away. Anyway my question is I don't have a breeding pair nor I had one before so how is it possible for the angel to lay those eggs. Or they will probably not get fertilized as male is not present?

Some female Cichlid can lay eggs without spawning with a male but unfortunately the eggs will be infertile.
