Just a few questions. I have researched here, other sites , & books & have found all kinds of conflicting information. I want to be sure I am doing things right. Stats: new tank (4 weeks). Nitrates 5 ppm, ammonia/nitrites 0. Planted tank- 55 gallon- current stock - mated pair angels, 8 flame tetras, bn pleco- will be adding 6 corys, 5 bolivian rams & 4-6 more flames. My lfs told me to feed the (adult) angels 1x day or every other day. I feed NLS daily, brine shrimp or bloodworms 1x a week -will feed those more often after bb more established. Should I feed more often? I know cichlids are "beggars" but they even dig in the substrate looking for food! Last night they even picked at my plecos algae wafer. Also, is 25 % weekly wc sufficient? They have spawned twice & have more color than when I got them. They have a beautiful blue sheen & nice orange on their heads- both become more pronounced after bloodworms, brine shrimp, during mating, & after wc's. Are there other foods that I shoud be feeding?

My angels get 3 feedings a day, but for you I would recommend 2. I feed my angels a variety of blood worms, brine shrimp, quality flakes, black worms, diced earthworms, beef heart homemade mix, occasionally tetra color bits. As long as you vary your food your fine.

Hi Jen. I suggest you feed them twice a day.. They are adults and that should be sufficient. Also I sometimes skip a day to clean out everyone's systems..It is natural for them to pick at the substrate and the algae tabs. As long as you feed them a varied diet you will be fine.. In addition to the NLS, shrimp pellets, tetras color bits, color flakes and spirulina flakes, I also feed the zuchini to make sure they get their veggies.. Of course as a treat they will love bloodworms.. I really don't think the brine shrimp provide that much nutrition as adults.. but I understand that the cartiledge (sp) is good for the fish... who knows:ROFL: I just believe in the variety so that if you run out of something your fish will not be at a loss. Or if you sell them to someone else they can readily adapt to the new variety of foods available to them. IMO NLS is a great basic..
I would up the amount of the water changes. Angels are fairly messy eaters. I would do a 50% water change if possible. And as often as you feel like doing it while still keeping in mind the needs of your plants.
Good luck with your tank Sue:D

I recently lost my female but my feedings havent changed.
Morning: Flake and Algae Waffer
Afternoon: Frozen Brine Shrimp
Every Third Night: Frozen Bloodworms

I will skip a day or two every other month or so. Not planned just when I go out of town.

Thank you guys! And the Angels thank you since they get an extra feeding, lol.

Congratulations on your progress.

Now that you are feeding them a 100% more, you need to change their water more frequently otherwise the water quality in their tank will deteriorate and eventually cause health problems.
