I'm pretty sure my two angelfish are breeding in my 55g community tank. I've had the black one for a while and when I added the striped one late summer the striped one immediately became territorial of the space around this planted driftwood. On the bottom right you can see the dwarf lilly bulb plant with two leaves slightly spotted. Below is a close up of the leaves, sorry for the fuzziness.

My question is what should I do? I've read successfully raising angelfish fry in a community tank isn't common. I do have an extra 10g tank I can setup, but I know nothing about what to do in that regards. I also have a small 6" boxy breeding net.

Leave them to do thier thing. If they wind up eating the eggs, they should lay again in 2-3 weeks. Just enjoy thier activity and behaviour.

what does it mean when, bit by bit, the eggs start to turn opaque white?

also, the striped one has always been the aggressor and guardian of the area, does that make it hte female?

When the eggs turn into a pale white colour, they are pronounced dead. For an increased hatch rate you may wish to use fine tweezers to pluck the eggs off. The eggs that are white have been attacked by a fungus, and other eggs in thier close vicinity will be effected aswell. On the other hand, experianced parents will remove the white eggs for you, however these eggs appear to be the first spawn so I highly doubt that they will remove all, if not any white eggs.

Expect the worst, prepare for the best.

One leaf is already clear of all the eggs, but the other leaf seams to be doing well with no fungus growth. I don't know if this means they're cleaning the eggs, but the parents will suck up a few eggs every now and then and spit them back onto the leaf.

The eggs themselves have grown little "sperm tails" and move like there's a current and also constantly squiggle their tails.

Good luck! Angelfish eggs rarely make it to the post-hatching stage if left with the parents.
