Hello; had a similar outcome some years ago with a breeding pair. Difference being the female beat up the male. You ask a good question. One option is to leave him alone. I have done that sort of thing. Ties up a tank for who knows how long.
Smaller fast swimmers such as zebras or other danios could work. They are too quick for him to catch.
Got to figure he will be territorial if left as is. So other cichlids may wind up with conflict. A thing I have tried with limited success is to move the fish to another tank for a while and in the meantime rearrange the 75 gallon. Put in some fish you like and let the male angel fish be the newcomer. I say limited as some fish are alpha types no matter what.
I asked a fish shop owner how he managed to have so many fish in a tank without fights breaking out. Cichlids. His reply was there were too many which apparently I guess prevented setting up a territory.
I guess it may depend on how many tanks you have or are willing to set up in the course of trying combinations out.
