I had this idea for a 10g tank that is heavily focused on landscape. Not necessarily heavily planted, just focused specifically on making the landscape look very pleasant (I got the idea from the tank of the month pics).

Then I thought 'ohhh once I have my angels pair off or pick up a proven pair I could have a pair in the tank and it would go great'.

What I'm wondering is: for a breeding pair of angels is that enough room? Any plants I shouldn't keep around them (I don't know f that is a weird question, I just want to cover my bases)? And is having them just the two a bad thing as far as not keeping them in higher numbers? I'm sure I could look most of that up to be sure but I really would prefer a dialogue on a forum so I can have people clarify things and add their own input if there is something I hadn't thought of.

I'm a fairly new fish owner so this is a bit down the road but I'm just enjoying socializing about he hobby since I don't know anyone else really interested in it

10g is WAY too small for a SINGLE angle let alone a pair

An average angel's dorsal and pelvic fins are roughly 7-8 inches tall. Some even have fins up to 12-15 inches from top to bottom.

I found that the best tank for a breeding pair is the standard 29 gallon.

I have an inch of pool filter sand and live plants on driftwood or rocks (ferns and moss).

Once their babies turned to free swimmers, I removed them (fry) to a bare bottom tank.

Ok, yeah I guess I just haven't researched specific max sizes. They always seem so small and I've never once seen one over 4 inches which I just figured was maxed

well technically u could keep a pair in a 20g without decor, but since u want heavilly decorated tank 29 would b better. Angels do grow large i've seen 6 inchers and heard of larger, it all depends on the quality. The important thing however is the hight of the tank since they require space for their long pelvic and dorsal fins, specially the veil tail variety. U'd want around 20" deep water for them. As for plants amazons swords r good since angels usually lay eggs on the broad leaves of this plant, or provide a diagonally positioned flat surface.

I have a pair of angels in a 20 long right now and they are doing fine, but this is only a temporary situation. Mine are about 7 inches from top to bottom. they are happy for the time being but there is not alot of room for them. I agree that 10 is too small for full grown angels but you could keep 2 in a 10 for about 6 months to a year so long as they are small. But once larger, you would want at the very least a 20 tall for an angel pair. Alexanian is right though, if your gonna go heavy on the decor, then you wouldn't want anything smaller than a 29. If you want to make them really happy get them a 55. If your planning on breeding them your gonna need the space anyway. My first successful breeding, I ended up with about 120 angels, which I had to separate into 3 tanks until they got big enough to sell or give away.

Thanks for adding more input guys. I was inspired by this tank. I want to reimagine it into like a beach home theme for a pair of fish that take care of their young (obviously in a bigger tank though)

I hope it shows up. If not just go to that forum and look on the right. It has the April 2012 winner. One of the most beautifully landscapes tanks I've ever seen. I'm now leaning toward a saltwater seahorse pair tank though which obviously couldn't be planted like that.

None of this is happening soon. I will be taking a long time to think this through and do it right. I don't want a repeat of my current tank and the cycling issues.

But yeah, a 29g angel tank is just tops. Maybe I'll do one and have another on the shelf above for my seahorse pair XD

I'm having so much fun dreaming about the possibilities. Feel free to add your own suggestions also

And yes even if I go 29g angel pair I will have a grow out tank and stuff. I will do this right for sure. I've had some people offer some sources already but if any of you know someone with good angel stock that can breed please put me in touch with them, whether another user or a website. I plan on spending big bucks for a good proven pair of high end angels if I do this. (and if I can't get a proven pair I still want 4 high end angels of some sort to try and get a pair) I'd like to be able to trace their lineage and know they aren't past F2 but not required if I feel the recommendation is good enough
