angelfish tank set up/tank mate suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Make sure you use tankmates capable of tolerating hight temps, remember discus really like water 84 to 88 deg.

dude just wait till they start pairing up.....then youll see why you need a bigger tank.
its been 4 years and there are no problems. i started with 4 discus then 4 more then 2 angels (1/2 inchers) then so on and so on the severums were the size of a quarter when i got them and the jupari were like 1-1/2 inches. the red tail shark was tiny less than an inch he chases the black shirts now .the discus chase the red tail away if he goes near them in a way they dont like the angels mingle with all of them and the plecos leave everyone alone. when the highfin gets big enough he will go in with the oscars and i'll get another one for this tank. i use silk plants so every once in a while i move the wood and re-arrange the plants on them to keep the peace. lots of regular maintenance and a good mix of dried bloodworms, sinking granules, beefheart flakes, and algea chips the jupari will not ever eat off the top but the rest of them will so i seperate what goes on what area so they all eat enough and then the 2 plecos clean up the bottom. its very nice. took me a long time. i even tried a parrot in there but the jupari didnt appreciate that too much so i had to take him back to the store the next day.

On that subject, I have 6 angels in my 58g. I do not plan on actively breeding them. Is the size of the tank big enough to support these guys well?

you should be ok, if the tank is long, wide, and tall enough.

I do as well. Green and gold severum, chocolate cichlid, 4 angelfish, 12 black skirt tetras and 4 clown loaches ( still small) in a 6' 125G.
