i recently picked up a single angelicus botia (listed as botia sp. "angelicus") its still very small and in a 5 gallon but I plan on moving it into something larger within a month, maybe a new 20 or my 45 with my baby jd and baby polypterus palmas. would this be a good idea? will he be ok by himself? or should i look into getting more? i know botias/loaches grow slowly, but how slowly is slowly? he's maybe 2" now.

These will look better in a small shoal, 4-6 fish. They are more sociable that way. You will need a bigger tank asap, 5 gal is small for that fish. They do growslowly, but will reach sizes that will outgrow your 45.

The fish will get to 6", but if you want to keep a shoal, they will outgrow the 45.

Nice Looking loach!! Ive seen a few recently but the $25 price x 5 I decided to add to my striata group instead lol

ok, well I moved him in to the 45 shortly after the first post about him, and hes getting along fine with my jack dempseys and polypterus palmas. how slow/fast do they grow, what kind of rate am i looking at here? I would like to pick up more for when i upgrade my tank at the end of the summer if they will get large enough to be ok with what i'm hoping will be a pair of jacks and maybe some other fish, maybe the polypterus that its in there with i dunno yet. i wouldn't be considering this if they cost that much near me!! i got "alphonse" for like $5! so getting a shoal together won't be difficult cost wise!

I agree with wurm. You are going to need a 55 gallon minimum for those loaches.

Loaches will grow faster in a bigger tank, but with one specimen will grow slowly.
