Anyone here succesfully combined discus and angel fish. I know that angels can transfer a disease over to the discus. Is this disease signifigant or hard to treat and is it possible for the discus to catch it multiple times. One thought that I had is to place the angels in a quarintine tank with a discus and see if they happen to be carriers.

thats an old wives tale. there are many who have angels and discus together. the trick is to make sure you don't put juvie discus with larger angels. angels are faster eaters than discus and will out compete them for food. actually, I'm thinking of adding a few wild angels to my wild discus tank.

I've had an angel tank with 1 discus in it for almost a year now with zero problems to the discus.

it's a 55g planted tank, there's even one pair (not yet spawned...) of angels in there that punk everything else except the discus. The angels treat him like he doesn't even exist. The only real interaction is when one of the pair attacks another angel and manages to run into the discus, and then he just pushes them off. The discus is about only slightly larger than the angels in body size, and I bought him at 3" when he was smaller than the angels.

As long as you get your fish from a reputable source or trustworthy lfs you should be fine.

OK, this is that huge aquarium general known as Lago grande do curuai where discus. See the whole film, dude running Lago Grande is doing everything wrong:

Murky water, WTF, everyone knows Discus needs super clean water.
Wrong tank mates, peacock bass? angle fishes? WTF, don't they know discus needs to be single specie tank?
Water movement, WTF, no wonder the discus at Lago Grande are suffering, way too much water movement.

Dude at Lago Grande didn't read the "how to keep discus'? No wonder those discus suffered so much that they don't even color up.

Angel fish will generally be more competitive than discus when it comes to feeding, territory, etc. In my experience, I've kept discus and angels together, but never for a long time. Discus have a tendency to establish pecking order based upon the size of the fish and fins; angelfish tend to have bigger fins relative to their body size. As a result, even if you have smaller angelfish in the tank, their fin factor will deter the discus from being aggressive towards them. In my experience, it's better to have large dominate discus and small submissive angels, but this simply doesn't stay the case for too long. As far as diseases go, yes angels have greater immunity to diseases, but if the fish are healthy and happy, the water parameters in check, and fed regularly, disease transfers will be rare and generally not severe. If and when my discus get ick, bruises, or scarring, I just do a water change and feed live food. Aggression is directly proportional to food scarcity; by increasing the amount of food I feed, aggression (and therefore the cortisol level) is reduced and the natural immune response can be maximized. I say give it a try, but be ready to transfer the angels to another tank if necessary.

Good Luck!
