i currently have a breeding pair of albino pearlscale angels, and as most of you angel breeders might know, the more exotic the strain the crappier of parents they are. theyve laid eggs a few times, but eat them every time(actually its the male that does it). the male will start off eating only the fungal eggs and then get carried away and just eat them all. a lot of articles ive read say they may never parent raise but i figured id give asking you guys a try.

my real question: is there any way to encourage the pair to parent raise? ive tried looking it up on google and mfk, but didnt really find any methods that would help. they are currently in a 30 gallon tall with one other fish(the dither[platy]). artificial rearing is a pain in the bum so if any of you could give me advice it would be kindly appreciated.:)

just to reiterate the question: is there any way to encourage an angel pair to parent raise?
thank you for any replies.:)

Try taking out the other fish. The only real success I've had is seperating them from the parents.

Removing all other inhabitants may help, but you are most likely going to have to hatch the eggs yourself.

alright, ill get that platy outta there asap. hope they parent raise, even though they likely wont. thank you for the replies and advice.

I finally had a spawn raised by my Kois...they've laid eggs probably 20+ times. I usually pull the eggs, but this time they laid them in a place I couldn't easily pull. So, I decided to let nature take its course, and bingo...I've got wigglers. Give them time to try, if you're not dying to raise the fry.

Its not uncommon for angels to eat the first spawnings, it takes awhile for them let instinct kick in. But atleast they'll spawn every 2 weeks or so under good conditions.
