Unless you've got a really low level of T.D.S. and a low gH in your regions water you'll need an R.O./D.I. unit to successfully breed discus.
Between the two, the discus have far more interesting community habbits. If you think you're accomplished enough to keep the waters clean you can keep them in waters upwards of 8.2 pH.
Yes, but he has a smallish tank for a normal grouping of discus. Get a few domestic bred angels to start. Much cheaper starting out, and a little more forgiving of mistakes. Good quality discus are not cheap, so if you screw up and kill them, you are out some serious money. When you get more experience, and another tank, then get your discus.
I'll start with angels and work my way up. I have been in the hobby a while but still... I'll wait till i can afford another tank, but its not a very small tank.
