angels with african cichlids

they nip at the angels relentlessly .the long streamer first and then after that the fins.. i have raised a couple of yellow lab africans in with my angels because they are the only ones that do not have a tendency to bother any other fish.. but i would say no to africans and angels.

thinking of turning my 55g into an african cichlid tank
but i have some fish i really like
like a 3 inch silver danoid
and some hjetta gars
and some clown loaches
and a spiney eel
and some african catfish
sorry for all the ands
u think if i got rid of the hjettas africans would be ok with them??

I do not want to discourage you because there is alot of mixing that we do and get away with.. the only thing about africans is that if you have them then it should be as natural as possible set up.. for some reason it just seems africans should be only with africans...and africans are very fast moving and can pick on other fish that are not aggressive, they are beautiful and fun and usually the more africans you have in the tank the less aggression you will have ..keeping in mind that it should not be over crowded either,..but they do good in larger numbers and if you have other kinds of fish {if they were okay} may cause problems within the africans..also reguirements like water and food.. and africans are very eager eaters ..they would not let much food get to the bottom for bottom feeders.. and also the type food differences could be a factor... if you understand what i am trying to say.so as much as i understand you are attached to these fish you mentioned ..i can only suggest you have two different tanks.. and have them both.
