I'm going to move this to the disease and illness section. Hopefully your post will attract more attention there.

thanks i posted gnats there and havent read alot of articals on mfk that give a answer on how to deal with them i can see them going threw stages in my tank

They might be midges but at any rate it doesn't matter they wouln't hurt anything. The best thing to do is scoop them out with a net. Small fish would take care of them in no time but since you have piranhas that's not really a practial approch. I don't know what type of set up you have but increasing the surface agatation will also keep the at bey. If you have a canester raise the out flow so it breaks the surface. Increasing surface agatation once you remove them with a net should help alot.

Great advice, Tom. I was actually extremely curious about this. What you said makes sense.

It seems as if I have unwelcome visitors in my tank as well. A nice colony of ants. These guys are super tiny and just run around on my tank all day long. I have a very clean house and it has to be the amount of water that made them appear. Good luck with your problem.

I was told by an exterminator one time that the key attractor to insects is fresh water, not food. That does make sense. When I first moved into my new rental house I found that it had a horrendous and problem too. I had to make my landlords spray. No problems since thank goodness.

God I hate ants. Especially fireants.

yes i pointed the outflow to the top of the surface now i got a nice circular motion goin on i did this yesterday and i noticed alot dead at the surface like dust lookin ive had my hood off since yesterday to i thought they liked stagnent water like misquitos i was hopeing my thread would help others becuz i seen very little topics about them at one point they look like a red misquiote larvae then transfom to a spiral swimming refflective worm maybe a 1/16 of a inch then were flyin to the light theyre so small you cant get pics
