last time up around the kern river in the mountains my mom and I found this,she got back in the car and wouldnt get out lol, locked the doors when I tried to get her out and was just shakin her head laughing saying no way. Lots of mountain lions up thier, some time back a girl got attacked real bad by a starving one. Anyways, is that what you think this was?

Looks more like a bears footprint than a cougars, to me.

i would think its too small for a bear.

Looks like a cougar, or a smaller cat, maybe wolf

Hard to tell, but it's as likely a large dog as anything wild. No other tracks? Bears have distinctly different front and back pawprints. Cougars almost never show claw tracks, while dogs and wolves often and bears almost always show claw tracks.
