Annoying scratches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tank looks like someone cleaned it with steelwool for a year, I couldn't stand it. When I switched to LEDs the scratches all but dissapeared. You can see some of the ones up at the top closer to the light, but from a few feet away you dont. Worth a try..

How large are they? Large ones you may be able to tell my feeling. I find the small ones easier to find (if on the outside of the tank) by viewing at an angle until glare shines over the scratch, if its on the outside, you'll see it pretty clearly. Scratches on the inside of the tank tend to be hard to see since the water fills them in and light doesnt get affected much when passing through, so you cant easily see the scratches.

Anyhow, you can buff out small scratches in acrylic, but it can be tedious. If youve never done it before definitely read up on it and practice on a scrap piece or section thats not visible normally. You can buy plastic polish that will work for small scratches but larger ones will need to be sanded by finer and finer sand paper until you can polish it out. Ive done that with some of the scratches on my acrylic tank but it tanks practice.

Scratches inside of the tank can buff out the same way, but you'd need to empty the tank to do it. Then clean and rinse the tank thoroughly

On my tank if I have my light towards the front of my tank the scratches are really visible. So I keep my lights towards the back and I can hardly notice them.
