Well, I'll need to build a stand for my 55g. I've looked at a lot of stands and know the basic design but I figured I'd make a thread for any questions I have and pictures of the build itself. First few questions I have...

1) What should the height of the stand be? the height of the tank is 21"

2) Are you all countersinking your screws into the wood?

3) How are you all attaching the skin to the frame of the stand? just wood glue or screws?

Thanks in advance!

Height is simply preference. I am starting stands for my 55 and 84 and I want the stands at 32".

Countersinking is good for aesthetics, being that you can putty the heads for a better finish.

Attaching the skin, I personally would use a high quality glue like liquid nails and then use finish nails. Again aesthetics for finishing. The stands I am building are going to be built with oak plywood only (no 2x4 frame). Constructed right it will be more than strong enough without the 2x4 frame.

Good luck with the build, and I hope I have provided some insight.
