it seems like evrytime i go to petsmart i get really mad. the people they have running the fish section are either....

A. old guy/girl who thinks there smart and cant get another job. and have some knowledge about fish. ( they swim, eat, and have pretty colors).

B. a teenager who got sick of the wendys drive thru.

C. a mongloid.:nilly:

so i go into petsmart this afternoon.( i get water conditioner there) i was observeing the fish and its very pathetic. the care that these fish recieve is incredebly disturbing/sad/stomach churning. every oscar over 3 inches was suffering from a sever case of hith. most likely the old guy running the department and the younger kid were not treating the fish. i just walked by the oscars but didnt say anything.

i started to look at the baby pacus wich were mixed with some syndontis catfish and 4 or 5 african knife fish. i noticed after short observation that one of the knife fish had a very very serious case of ick. not just a few white dots. im talking the entire fish looks like it was dusted with parmesan cheese. well i figured since all the tanks are connected to one large central filtration system all of the fish at petsmart were at risk of catching the hith. so i asked the younger fish killer if he would kindly take the fish out of the tank and place it into a hospital tank.

you would think i called him fat he looked a little mad and in a hurry told me that they do an evaluation at the end of the day it will be taked care of when we close tonight.

hearing this bothered me....

1.if your recieve a shipment and one fish has ick you put all of the fish in a hospital tank. wich they did not do.

2. if somehow you didnt notice the fish had ick and someone tells you. you thank them and immediately move them.

he said he already put some treatment in the tank so all the fish will be fine. i wanted to slap him. so he goes to get the older guy who is just about as dumb as the kid. the older guy started to tell me not to touch pet store property. i was touching the air nozzle they fill the fish bags with air with. he also said as long as the fish have been treated everything will be fine and we will evaluate the situation tonight.

i said thats not going to work for me. i want the fish that have ick in a hospital tank. he then asked if i had a fish tank. i said just a few. a 300/125/60/60/40/29 he started to get a little nervous after i told him the tank sizes. he said im treating them again and everything will be fine. i said yeah just like those beautful oscars?

that got him pissed. he said ARE YOU BEING SARCASTIC? i said no those are beautiful oscars. your treatment is working wonders. i swear his face went from a pale white to a pepper red. i said please take the knife fish out. he eventually took it out. and didnt even spot the other 2 with ick. so i pointed them out and left after he went in the back with them......

its ridiculous petsmart should be banned. i ised to wonder why some people refuse to go in them but now im starting to understand. sorry about the long rant i was mad today. any similar stories? please share!:WHOA:

i agree but honestly bro it is not ur place to tell them this, i agree with ur message but honestly you were disrespectful in the way you handled it

I do agree. Petsmart does not take very good care of the fish they have. 2 months ago I looked at the African Knife tank and saw one in somewhat good condition, and the other was just bone. They were obviously not being fed... The one also seemed to have an eye condition. When I went to ask for one, the guy scoops up the one that's close to death, so I agrued with him about it and he finally put it back and took out the one in a little better condition. (Which is now in my tank, fat, healthy, and happy) I feel bad that the one Knife had to suffer though. I'm sure he would of been dead by that night.

Generally you treat the tank for ich not the individual fish, so how would moving the knife fish to a hospital tank help?

It amazes me the people here that complain about how bad petsmart is, yet still shop there :duh:

my petsmart has very healthy fish compared to the one you described, bt the employees are still clueless. nice job making the old guy nervous tho (honestly, i think that telling him what size tanks you have showed him that you know what youre talking about).
only one lady in my petsmart knows what shes talking about, but she isnt there often, sadly.

I must have a good one. All of the fish at my petsmart are healthy, have enough room, and the employees are very knowledgeable. I know one who has some monster tanks at home and she knows what she's talking about. But yeah, I guess it just depends on the store.

The thing about your complaint is honestly you go to Pets Mart and they should treat you well because you are a customer, but you don't get to go in there and give orders. You may have figured that the best way to treat the ick was to isolate the fish and it may well be that way however maybe they don't have hospital tanks maybe they have UV on their central sump so ick spreading is not much of a concern maybe they don't care but again you offered some advice they didn't take it that their right. You don't run the fish department at Pets Mart. I'm sure the guy that runs it has some set of rules that he has to follow. Part of that policy is that customers should not touch some of the equipment in the store. It’s probably a liability thing. He could have been nicer about it but at that point you were already insulting him and he probably lost a bit of his temper and told you not to touch store property. You were in the wrong here plain and simple. How would you like it if someone came into wherever you work and ordered you around? If you don’t like the way Pets Mart treats their customers than feel free not go in there.
