another feeding post

ok.........ive been through this alot on this forum,but im asking one more time.what are ur opinions on feeding minnows to a nile monitor.these are minnows a friend of mine raises.he keeps them in fairly good condition,and is always making sure the water is clean.....today i was just messing around with my nile and all of a sudden when i dropped a minnow in his tank,he started shaking the life out of it then swallowed it whole.I was amazed by its instinct.
 
Minnows = Great.

Your monitor will eat pretty much anything that moves. Be carfull! If the fish isn't dead, it could expand its fins and get stuck in your monitors throat. This would be rare but still a possibilty.

Minnows are great for him!

In case your friend isn't available certain times, it might be cool to think about setting up a tank to store/raise some of your own feeders.

As we've been over before, fish are a staple part of a wild monitor's diet and thats awesome you've found a source of food to satisfy that.

The minnows are fine but I just got a couple questions strictly out of curiosity. How did you feed it to him? Just drop it on the ground or in the water bowl? And what kind of minnows are they? Just like regular fatheads?

feed him silversides. They are individually frozen, thaw them out and feed them to him, he will love them. Minnows are ok, goldfish are not, cause they can have flukes and can screw up a monitors liver.
 
i just threw live minnow on the ground and he attacked it.Im glad its good for him,cause i think it will be part of his staple diet.
 
you should put them in a dish, throwing them on the ground could easily lead to him ingesting the substrate which could cause to impaction.
