I will be buying a house next year and my wife gave me the OK for a fish room. (Small scale for now) I am going to start with 4x40 gallon breeders. I have seen people using racks from HD and Lowes. I know it will be a lot cheaper to go completely DIY for the racks, but I love the fit and finish of bought racks.

Something similar to these

Anyone have any opinions on these racks? I will be running 2 40b's on on each rack. Gives me good options for lighting and filters. Plus plenty of room to clean and whatnot. And they go on sale for $60 every now and then so that is well worth it for me.

I am not sure I would use those racks they don't seem sturdy enough. For lighting I like the beamworks leds lights for the price and for filtration maybe a Eheim 2217 and a AC50.

That shelf is rated @ 1000lbs per shelf, which is way overkill. I will be doing led's and will be doing a mixture of sponge filters and hob's.

If it's rated for that much weight then go for it. I think if you are somewhat handy you could build your own.

I agree, however I have seen monkeys that we're better at utilizing tools than me.

you can't plan too much without knowing the size of the room and it's location, but I guess there's a bit you can make a start on now.

Have a think about how many tanks you want vs what size. Some people would prefer 100 10g tanks, some 10 100g, and some one 1000g, each has it's pros and cons, depends on what sort of fish you want to keep and if you're interested in breeding.

For me, a fish room would be cool, but to really enjoy the hobby I need at least one "display" that I can chill out and just watch. Having a big pretty tank in front of a couch really helps you spend time with the fish rather than standing in a cramped humid room.

So get thinking, and dream big as you can always scale it down...

Well my DSA 225 will be my show tank. The fishroom will be for breeding, both cichlids and plecos. 40b tanks have a perfect footprint for these setups. And these racks are basically modular so i could always add more if I wanted/was allowed.
