My local fish store ordered some fish and got something random that kind of looks like a parrot cichlid. They emailed the supplier photos, asking what they were and the supplier doesn't know. I'm thinking some kind of parrot hybrid or gold convicts, but honestly we just can't figure it out.
They're very antisocial and hide ALL OF THE TIME. the few people who have bought them claim they are super aggressive and have killed everything in their tank. I'm not experiencing this at all.
I brought home a pair and put them in with my green terror/acara hybrids, and now the mystery fish AND my hybrids are hiding.
I added a juvenile jaguar cichlid that is quite the social butterfly, and now even he's constantly hiding (I know he can't stay in there long term, he's just in there to grow up a bit). I'm assuming the more social fish are concerned with possible danger due to the behavior of the mystery fish and everyone is eating, so I'm not too worried about it. But they all just kind of group up together and wedge themselves in whatever space they can lol.
My question is, does anyone have any idea what these guys might possibly be based on behavior and looks?
Below is pics of them at the store waiting for food. I brought home the grayish one that doesn't look like the rest and the one with black spots on its tail.
On a side note, they need names as well.
