i originally though this was altamira due to lack of colour, barring and dorsal fin height.
anybody else have any other ideas as its now colouring up a little its around 4.5''

yeah id agree with that.ive never seen any myself but they colour up well! im trying to import some orange head geophagus (tapajos) from holland as we speak and hoping to get a good base for breeding stock here in the UK.

check them out!

yep confident in breeding them but really hard to get any in the UK. i cant find anyone who has them here.

very nice geo, I have 4 exactly like them at work, they arrived under the generic "surinamensis" label. I would agree they seem to be abalios, but with the current state of geo classification, that could and may already have changed. I think someone needs to determine a viable numeric based system like what exists for the loricariids (i.e. L# plecos) because right now here are so many geos coming in under the same name it becomes almost impossible to know what you're going to get until they arrive, plus every exporter has different names for their geos. just my 2 cents

IVE HAD A LOOK AT THE 6 SPECIES IVE GOT AND THE CLOSEST I CAN COME TO I.D.ING HIM IS AN ARIPUNA. BUT HE APPEARS NOT TO HAVE ENOUGH COLOUR IN THE TAIL .(THEY HAVE REAL STRIPEY TAILS) HE COULD ALSO BE A RIO PINDARE......HOW BIG IS HE ...HE LOOKS LIKE A SUB ADULT....I ALSO AGREE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A NUMBER SYSTEM AS THEY ARE ALL RELATED (MAYBE ONLY SEPERATED BY A COUPLE OF MILES OR 1 COMES FROM A "WHITE STREAM" AND 1 COMES FROM A "BLACK STREAM" OR THEY COME FROM A DELTA WHERE THE TWO STREAMS MEET.... AS FOR TAPAJAS, THEY HAVE JUST APPEARED ON THE SCENE IN SYDNEY AND EVERY BODY IS GOING MAD OVER THEM, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL BUT THEY ARE DEAR ....HE LOOKS NICE AND HEALTHY ...YOU'LL JUST HAVE WAIT AND SEE WHAT HE DEVELOPES INTO... GOOD LUCK WITH HIM
