Anybody ever tried Mollies with a GSP? If there are already 6 or 8 Mollies in the tank when the GSP is introduced, will the aggression be spread out enough? Maybe he kills one or two, then leaves the rest alone? I know GSP's are evil little punks, but I'd really like to try this... Opinions?...

probably not a good idea. puffers are kind of a trial and error fish when it comes to tankmates. order that they were put into the tank has nothing to do with their aggression(with my GSP anyway). the newest of the bunch is the bully when hes hungry, he just chases everything around that he sees moving. no one in my tank is missing chunks out their fins or anything, he just likes to chase for some reason. plus mollies arent necessarily an aggressive fish, they will take the beating til they die probably without even giving a nip back. puffers are pit bulls, consider mollies a toy poodle.

Yeah, thats what I keep hearing. I guess I'm just hoping someone will come out of nowhere & tell me it worked for them! PLLLEEEASE!

it may work it may not. its all dependent on that specific puffers personality. i try to get a lot of ghost shrimp just as distractions in the tank(just incase one decides it wants to attack something) since they are predatory fish. if they see one they chase it and try to eat it, actually pretty entertaining watching them try to catch these things and as long as they dont lose sight of the shrimp they will continously try to catch it.

I will definitely try the ghost shrimp thing. Would a typical GSP push decor around to get at the shrimp/mollies? What I mean is can the shrimp/mollies hide if I give them caves, or will the GSP go nuts & hurt himself & break stuff like a TSN or RTC? Thanks!

I do not have my pics handy but I had 2gsp's and 3 sail mollies and a violet goby all together in a 30g. I had that set up for around 3 years with no casulties. I removed the mollies and put them in a dedicated breeding tank to try and get some feeders going. And I then put 2 more gsp's in the tank. ANd it stayed that way for another 6months or so. Then we had a ice storm that knocked our power out for 10 days, and the hole tank died off because of water temps got down into the low 50's. So if you want ,try it out. I have never seen a gsp that killed anything. I have only owned 4gsp's. But mine were not violent at all. You may be able to find my pics thru search.

I've actually seen your pics before, I think. I've been digging through the puffer section for a few weeks now. That is actually the combination I'd really like (GSP, mollies, violet/dragon goby). Any tips on decor? Was yours packed with hiding spots or fairly open?

They were all in a 30g that had one old sunken car decor for hiding and one fake plant. I actually posted a pic, back when we had a brackish section on mfk. They were all sleeping in the car. The goby and both gsp's all piled up on each other. And the mollies stayed stayed by the plant at night.

Puffers are curious fish and if there arnt a fair amount of decorations and things to explore they will entertain themselves. If that means taking a chunk out of a molly then so be it.

I buy mollies all of the time for my brackish tank. They clean up the alge very well, and are pretty cheap.

My GSPs never really mess with them an are normally more preocupied with themselves, or snail hunting. My snowflake eel, and butis butis are another story.
