I know I started a thread a while ago about gulpers.

Anyways, i know have the tank set-up, its a 35.(30x12x24'')
I was planning to do a BB tank but added gravel last night.
I also put a cheapo petsmart special fake log in there for a hide spot.
Should I remove it? I dont want the gulper to be Dependant on a hide it's whole life, and I will have to remove it soon as it isnt a very large log.

Should I just add some floating plants? Will the gulper be ok with no decor?
I have a black background on the tank, aswell as both sides(Tanks next to window, if I dont cover the sides algae sprouts quick)

So, my question is, would it be better to put floating plants/plant the aquarium or leave it barren to provide the most swim space?

My gulpers don't really hide at all. They are out and about pretty much all day. I do use floating plants to cut down on some of the light penetration, and I think that helps quite a bit.

I have a bunch of hide spots that are available, should they feel like they want to hide, but they very rarely get used. I would say put them in there (considering they are driftwood cats), but don't use a true cave, use more open driftwood pieces.

Ok cool.
I'll get some floating plants in there.

What about just using a large rock for it to hide behind?

You could do that. I have a large curved piece of driftwood, some bogwood, and a large rock for the main decor pieces. I just tossed a few plants in there to balance it out and then some floating plants...the seem to love it.

Well, my problem is, as you know a 35 gallon is not very large. Only 30'' long. That's why I'm thinking of just getting a large rock and placing it in the middle for the gulper to hide behind, yet it still leaves a good ammount of swim space.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get a gulper still, might use this tank as a growout for some dats if I can get ahold of some...
