If I remember the label correctly it was somthing about Atabapo 'Network Pike Cichlid'

I'll be able to double check that latet today.

I have more pics if needed just let me know. (Comp's being retardedly slow and I'm late for work)

Tapajos II

I'm no expert but I think that's what they are......
(Are these the ones at Big Al's???..............did you see the larger single pike
labeled Lugubris?? I looked all over the web trying to find a photo of it
but had no luck....It's simply GORGEOUS.....I wish I had your camera so I
could take a pic of it.....Red face with a orangish body and stripes half way down it's body at only 6 inches.....

I stand corrected...this must be a Atabapo II...
Does this pike stay that cream color into adult hood or does
it get red like Atabapo I ??

There is alot of confusion with Atabapo I & II & Tapajos I & II & III...
I wish someone would make a sticky of only these species and fix the
confusion once and for all...
So is it true that a Tapajos II is really just a Cobra pike???

I agree...Not a ton of info on the variations. Originally I was told the Atababo's were the Cobra Pike, then I heard Tapajo's II <--Which is what all the members here have told me are the true Cobra pike. Funny thing is, the name Cobra Pike was probably just made up by some pet shop owner in the 80's! "There's a striking little feller...Let's call em the Cobra!"

For what it's worth...I never see them in the LFS near my home anymore. In the past they were still a rarity, but they were around if you looked hard enough. Nowadays it seems they are very few and far between. I passed on a trio here and have regretted since.

LOL...I wouldn't doubt it..that could be how they got the name....
I have never seen them in my neck of the woods either....
maybe in the future!!!!!
So I think I have some of the confusion sorted out;
1) Atabapo I.......most reddest
2) Atabapo II......the photo above
3) Tapajos I.......second reddest and I think a bit thinner
4) Tapajos II......cobra

Well it's a good start... now we need a photo of each a juvies and
as adults......also most aggressive, size , HITH prone, etc..

Does the pike featured above stay that color as an adult......
(P.S.-didn't mean to hijack this thread..sorry about that.)
Thanks

No worries, I got the answer I wanted but I agree with you about getting a sticky done up with all the different regions and such. It seems pike cichlids can be awefully confusing.

And yes I did see the lugubris but I feel he's closer to 8 in. I'll see if I can grab a pic on thursday and see if I can post it.

Side note, are you looking for Tapajos II? If so I can see what I can do about getting some in to edmonton. I'll let you know later on.
