I noticed that this particular wolf had a hump. Tried getting jaw shots, it was hard to see, but I counted 5 pores maybe six. And the other two wolves I presume are malas as comparison. What do you guys think? Also, I know lacerdae tend to have a parallel jaw line as opposed to the non joining v in other non mala variants, but I read somewhere it may also be due to location? Thoughts

1st and second pic is what I may think is lacerdae?

There's lots of variation with color and shape a bit. But folds will tell the compete story.

Lacardae folds run parallel and will have minimum of 6 pores but up to 8. Look at the photo and count the pores.

Agree with the above. If you count five it's possibly Australis. The folds don't seem to connect like mala but rather come close like australis, but they tend to have rounder heads than the one in question.

I can't, upload pics on convoy box for some reason. Here's a head shot. As far as body shot, if you were trying to count the number of scales I think he still may be too small or I need to change the substrate to a lighter color.

Looking at the 3rd pic up close does show 5 pores that pair up. It's not lacerdae or mala. Mala has only 4 pores. Lacerdae have to have parallel folds. Sorry that's my fault didn't click on the photos. The pics actually come through way clearer.

That third pic likely to be of intermedius.

Pics of Australis and mala just to compare.

Counted 39 scales roughly. I may be off, their pattern can make it hard.

Well if it indeed has that many. You can rule out, intermedius can be ruled out not only from th scale count (they have 42-46) but they're in the Lacerdae group and are supposed to have the parrallel jaw folds like. The only fish that is said to look inbetween mala and lac in any scientific paper I've read is australis. Which would mean australis is the only possibility from their group, and it says they usually have an underbite as well. The scale count wouldn't match up with australis. So since we narrowed it to malabaricus group, I can say isn't microlepis since the lowest LL count they get is 43. Brasiliensis, malabaricus as we suspected, becomes a possibility. I could be off, and if it has 38 scales then hoplias teres becomes a possibility as well as they only have 38.

If you'd like to read through the lac group. http://www.scielo.br/pdf/ni/v7n2/a01v7n2.pdf
