Last Flag Tail Prochilodus (insignis) became much too hyper at 15" and started making my arrowana jumpy. Sold the nervous beast (he was THICK) June 2009 and have been looking for a Taeniurus ever since.
I'm no expert but think I got lucky, out of the four Flags at the ifs one was not like the others. (same size)

More gray than silver, spots still going up 3/4 from the tail, no spots on the others, much thicker black bars on tail and narrow faded orangey stripes, and not a hint of colour in the dorsal fin compared to the others.

By the way catching and transporting my 15" Flag was much more challenging than moving my last arowana, a 20" Yellow Tail.

Adrius, thanks for weighing in with your reply and confirming my guess.

I've had a couple of people on a Canadian forum mention that taeniuru are the ones that grow larger than insignis.

My google search results show insignis grow the largest, what do you think ?

Calc, in my unscientific opinion your Flag Tail is an Insignis and will grow to 15"+ beast no problem.

according to dr. axelrods latest atlas, the theraponura holds the record max size, 40cm :naughty:. i would guess taeniurus & insignis both grow to 35cm...

Are these measurements standard length or total length?
Sometimes there's confusion when people are talking about fish size.
