This is why lfs shouldnt get monsters like gars and pacu and just sell them to anyone. They should have to request them from their distributors for next shipment or something. This is pathetic. Someone will buy a fish knowing nothing about it because it "looks good" not realizing it will potentially reach over 3 feet in length and need a multi thousand gallon tank.
They buy this thinking It will be awesome because it looks cool

Not realizing it can reach this size

I hate this. And when they realize this they realease them into a nearby body of water or try and resell it to hopefully a better home.
I think big fish like this should be cut from all small fish stores that dont even look into who they are selling to. Is this just me or do others think the same?

At least the pacu hasn't outgrown the tank yet...

My bad amidst my anger rampage I misread the gar. Its a florida not a gator gar. But regardless still a monster. Same still applies but this should fit

sad but a reality we will have to live with. ive experienced the other extreme and trust me u dont want that. ive had a lfs employee tell me no tank could handle the bio load of adding more than 3 fish at a time. after about 10min explination of the 500g tank i was adding rosies to she decided to sell me "up to 10" until she realized i was going to be feeding them to monster fish. she then refused to sell me fish. yes the rosies were labled as "feeders" and priced by the dozen and were added to the 55g 1000 per week.

Wow thats so stupid on her part. If they are labeled as feeders then thats what they will more than likely be used for, or they will rot and die in a pet stores terrible water conditions. (Not all petstores mostly just chains)

Ya and whats even sadder is that this is all over the place happening every day. Even sometimes on a larger scale. Like maybe 5 pacu that someone thought were like big piranha (idk bad analohy but there are some pretty stipid people out there lol) so they take them all home to their "monster" 55 gallon tank when they should be in a huge 5000 gallon pond. Then they wonder why they die because of terrible water quality.
