I actually joined a few days ago and did not see an introduction thread.
Nice site you have here. I got into fish when I was 12. I also scored my first job at that time in a local pet shop. I remember African Greys for $400, Yellow Napes for $600 (That spoke fluent spanish!), Rummy Nose Tetras, the original Magnum canister filter, Diatom filters and a variety of other stuff that seems to have disappeared.
I ended up as a manager for the largest pet chain in NY (I'll let you wonder which one). Unfortunately, I took my career a little more seriously than the company I worked for so I moved on to selling and maintaining aquariums. My partner and I had a disagreement so I am out of the business for over 10 years now.
Despitre owning 2 snakes, I realized I miss having a fish tank so I'm currently reaquainting myself. I went from being able to walk into any situation and correcting it to "Nitrates? I remember them!":) Needless to say, i'm a bit rusty.
Anyway, I look forward to popping in here (I doubt i'll be much of a post ho).

Despite my name, i'm actually in Suffolk. Aqua Hut in Coram is a bit run down looking but has really nice stuff and there's a place in Medford on route 112 (South of Sunrise Hwy) that has an awesome selection. I wanna same the name is Country Critters but I could be wrong. I doubt you want to take that drive though.:)

I Think I'm familiar w/ those places ?
I'm in LI quite often actually & would travel anywhere to look @ Dogs,Fish,Repties,& other animals that interest me. I train all the way out in Manorville every sunday to train(DOGS) & then sometimes Go to Farmingdale on the way back & train over there.
James.

well well, another V.O.F... (veteran of fishkeeping). Welcome! Snakes are cool, but you need to get your hands wet again, so hurry up and join the movement! :D

Country Critters and Aqua Hut are both on Route 112 (Exit 64 off of the LIE) but they are 8-10 miles apart. Aqua Hut is north of the LIE in the Home Depot shopping center on the right. If you pass it, make a right on Route 25 and it's on the right. Country Critters is south of the LIE and South of Sunrise Hwy too. Once you pass Sunrise Hwy (27), it will be about a half mile down on the right. The sign says "Pets".
Country Critters has an impressive selection of fish. I was eyeing a 7-8" tiger Shovelnose for $14.99. Aqua Hut is ugly by comparisson but less expensive, good selection and their staff really knows their ****.

Agreed. I have the wife on board too. I'll probably search the local classifieds for a 125-175 tank and go from there. Need to get past the holidays first.:irked:
