New ray keeper here. Got my ray last Friday, was shipped Florida to Pennsylvania. Arrived with pink under his disk and a bad patch of skin at base of tail. Now his skin is peeling and looking infected. Still has good appetite and active. Salt OK to treat stingrays?

Salt is okay to treat of it's really needed. What type of Ray? What are your parameters and setup? Was it wild caught? Was it treated with anything upon arrival? Any tank mates or is it in quarantine? Any pics of the peeling?

Just a couple of things to better help you with what may be wrong because salt might not be the correct fix. Typically really clean water will be all that is needed to help heal most wounds.

Sounds like ammonia burn. I'd try to put it in a good cycled tank all alone and try to keep the water spotless.

It's a captive bred marble motoro. Water is pH 7 Ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate about 10 ppm GH 4. 4 foot by two foot 85 gallon 600 gph filtration no tankmates, some fine sand. Heater outside of tank

He is in an 85 g quarantine with well cycled filter temporarily till I move him into 8x8 1000 g tank

Without seeing pink could be because it is a pup. Patch at the base of tail is more of a concern could be a bacterial infection.Clean water is best untill you determine the problem

It is a pup...6 or so inches.. Does appear to be bacterial...no cotton like fungus. Hope that it will heal, I don't use medication on any of my fish, don't plan to start with my ray

If ur interested in another marble motoro pup i have a male and a female and im in PA.....just a thought sorry to derail

Chances are it's a combination of stress and foul shipping water. Keep your water clean, hopefully it's not too late. Is it eating?
Pictures?

He is eating well and very active. Looks much better today. I am interested in another ray or two for sure SandNukka15
