Hi,

I tested my tank and it reads ammonia 0ppm and nitrites is 2ppm. I did a 30% waterchange and put Stress zyme+ after a some hours i tested the water and it still reads ammonia 0ppm but the nitrites was at 5ppm. Is Stress zyme really works? I know i may not cycled my tank properly but is there a way to reduce the nitrites level? I only have 2 fish in the tank a silver aro which is about 8-9" and a 2.5" dat.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have any nitrates yet?

Keep up the water changes and add a small amount of salt (just a tablespoon is enough pretty much no matter how large your tank is). The salt will prevent "brown blood disease" caused by the nitrites.

Hi Burt,

Hmm.. i haven't tested my nitrates level yet. Should i tested it and reads above 0ppm does that mean the BB is already in place but on a few percentage? How about stress zyme+ does it really works? Yes i already put salt. Do i need to add salt every water change?

By testing the nitrates it will give you an idea on the state of your cycle (I am assuming you are not completely cycled due to the nitrite readings though).

Also, you should post your:
  1. tank size
  2. filtration
  3. length of time tank set up
  4. method of cycling (if any)
I have not used Stress Zyme+.
You can add back a small amount of salt with each of your water changes (which should be daily until you get nitrites under control). However, I do not recommend using salt on a regular basis (just use it to get you through this problem).
The water changes may extend the length of time to complete the cycle, although there is not much else you can do right now since you have fish in there.
You could try to get a hold of some filter media from someone else to seed yours, this would help also.

Good luck.

Burt :)

Thank you Burtess i will try your advices once i get home. Take care.
