So I just got 7 rbp about a dime size. I did not find this site till after. My fish guy said they should be just fine but now I am thinking that that may be too many. I have a 75 gal. tank with a rena 90 gal under tank filter.

I have a few questions if you dont mind anwsering them.

First spelling is not my thing so I opologize in advance.
next
#1 They said I should do a salt dip on my feeders before I feed them but I have read nothing about this??

#2 This may sound nasty but I want to feed mine live fish I know its wrong but I had african ciclhids and it got boring feed pellets. Are goldfish ok or are there better fish to feed them?

#3 How often should I feed them? and should it be one fish or just put some in there and let them decide?

#4 I have a rena 90 gal. filter is this enough on a 75gal? seems like it should be but after reading this board for awhile I'm a bit worried.

#5 Steve my fish guy said I could put a buck tooth terra in with them but here again after reaing this board I don't know?

# 6 water temps I have is set to 80 is that good?? My africans liked 78 but everyone says different things on this board.

#7 How many power heads should I put in my tank?

#8 How long or should I say how big do they need to be before feeding live fish?

If there are any tips you can give me I am more then happy to give you tips as well on all your auto repair. I own a shop and if you scratch my back I will return the favor.

Thanks

you haven't read anything about it because feeders are no bueno... stay away from them completely. stick with raw shrimp, tilapia, krill, catfish, and pellets, you can even feed bloodworms at that size.
#2 This may sound nasty but I want to feed mine live fish I know its wrong but I had african ciclhids and it got boring feed pellets. Are goldfish ok or are there better fish to feed them?
goldfish are about the worst thing you can feed them, if you really have the desire to feed your natts live fish and you understand that you are putting them at risk by doing so, your safest bet is to breed your own convicts.
#3 How often should I feed them? and should it be one fish or just put some in there and let them decide?
at the size they are at now, you can feed them two or three times a day, just throw a bit of food in there and let them take care of the rest, only feed them what they can eat in a few minutes and don't let food rot in there if they aren't hungry.
#4 I have a rena 90 gal. filter is this enough on a 75gal? seems like it should be but after reading this board for awhile I'm a bit worried.
if your filter is rated for a 90 gallon tank, it won't be enough to handle the bio-load of a shoal of natts in a 75, you're gonna want to aim for a 10x turnover rate for filtration. you should be fine for now, but i'd get another filter on there soon.
#5 Steve my fish guy said I could put a buck tooth terra in with them but here again after reaing this board I don't know?
absolutely not, some people try it, but they usually slowly disappear, if you're looking to mix different kinds of fish in a tank, you just bought the wrong type of fish.
# 6 water temps I have is set to 80 is that good?? My africans liked 78 but everyone says different things on this board.
80f is perfect
#7 How many power heads should I put in my tank?
one should be plenty, i have a maxi-jet 1200 in my 75 gal and i think it's perfect
#8 How long or should I say how big do they need to be before feeding live fish?
they'll eat live fish right off the bat, but once again, if you wanna provide proper care for your fish, that is a bad idea

hope that helps... welcome to the hobby

Hey thanks alot Looks like I will be breeding my own fish. Any Ideas on what kind? Also what are natts? is that native? Are 7 rbp too many for a 75?

for the size that your rbp's are at now....they should be fine for your 75g but if your planning to keep them in there for life...you should up grade to a bigger tank (20g per fish rule). You might end up losing a few due to their aggressiveness and lack of swimming space and will turn on each other. A 150g would be good for life or you could probably get away with a 125g...it's up to you?

The easiest and cheapest fish to breed for feeders for your rbp would be convicts. I believe natts are just another name for rbp? Lol, correct me if I'm wrong, not familiar with everyone's lingo. I would say that you can get away with a 75 up until they are around 7-9" each, then upgrade to 125+ for life. The bigger the better.

My buddy feeds only gold fish , Over 1-1/2 years now and fish never got sick
or ill from it (But they can) Many cases where they dont get sick .

I feed my piranha a 95% diet of pellets .

We got our Rbp at the same time , Mine our twice as big (No Joke)
I also keep my water pristine he slacks , He has a 75 gal and 5 reds It looks
like plenty in there to me .

I know own a mix shoal and still have one of my reds from my original shoal .
