hi, you all kno about my lil oscar as i posted a thread the other day well, i was wondering if you could help me be able to get him to eat from the surface.?

i have been feeding him frozen foods, Brine shrimp, Fish meat and i have tryed to feed him flake food as someone mentioned to me he may eat, ive also been putting in some NLS sinking small pellts but i dont know if hes been eating these because i have a peace of bog wood in the tank and the pellets seem to land behind there most of the time.

i would rather him come to the surface and stop being so shy, he comes out if i sit still in front of the tank for a few mins otherwise hides beneath the filter. i also dropped in a worm today and i dont know if he ate that because it sank down behind the wood and i had to pop out soon after i put that in.

any replies will be gratefull.

Thanks
Sam

may seem a little harsh,

try fasting (don't feed) him for a day, 2 days for an adult oscar.

then try some floating pellets. or floating live food like insects, usually get the oscar pumped and hunt at the surface.

after fasting him, also try hand feeding.

good luck!

Sounds like he/she is still settling in, give it time and you will soon be getting the wiggle wiggle feed me oscar dance everytime you are near the tank. Don't get yourself stressed out over the food thing I've had a few oscars and have not come across one yet that has starved to death. Be carefull not to leave uneaten food to rot in the tank better to have a hungery oscar than one that has died from ammonia poisoning. Nice looking little fella.

How long has he been in there, just might be stressed and not accustomed to it's surroundings.
As soon as it settles down I think you will be allright and it will come out more, and it will learn if it wants to eat, it has to come to the surface. If it doesnt want the floating pellets, I would use the starving technique as mentioned above. Also, I use pellet over flake, of which I recommend Hikari Gold as the staple, because whenever I see them eat flake, half of it comes out of thier gills, which is a waste, and now you have uneaten food rotting in your tank.

Just keep puttin in floating pellets he'll eventually eat them.

Is can go a long time without food. He won't die unless he is already sick.

Mine only eats things from the top.
