Hey whats up. I have a 55g tank with only 2inch Red O in it. What else would you recommend to put in it. Would Clown Loaches work. Or a bottom feeder of some sort. This is my first Tank Set up. so im pretty new to fish keeping so any advice is welcome. Thanks

In a 55 you will find not much will work as the oscar grows and even as the only fish in there when he's full grown it will be a tight squeeze, as for now you could try a Convict or Firemouth, Jd if you plane on upgrading the tank to a bigger one as they grow, if not I'd get some smaller schooling fish that as the Oscar grows he can eat to clear room.
you can go with bottom dwellers like Cory or another one of the smaller cats but stay clear of the common plecos, they dirty the water fast and grow way too big for a standard 55 gal.
Hope that helps.

yea your gonna need a bigger tank. Id say put somethin in there like James said cant have anything like "friendly" of course no neon tetra type stuff but Im sure you knew that :)

OK Thanks for the info. I have a 75g that came with the setup that i got from a family friend. I can try and squeeze that into my apartment.... Now Are Clown Loaches out of the question because of the oscar or is it just the tank size id have to change if i wanted Clowns?

Clown loaches dont grow nearly as fast as oscars and are best kept in schools. Also they sensitive to water quality. The oscar would eventually end up eating them when he got bigger, and it would be a real struggle during feeding time to make sure they got feed as well, besides the problem that they like hiding spots such as plants, and the oscar would most likely uproot these.

So Clowns are out. Im Glad i asked before i went out and bought. Im gonna settle on a JD as a tank mate. And maybe a cory. Thanks again for the info guyz now i know why i joined this forum. :)

ummm...........................

a 55 gallon is going to be too small for your oscar and with tank mates it would be even more overcrowded. i hope that you plan on upgrading in the next 8 months to something larger like a 75 gallon or larger

I would stay away from the cory cats as well. It could result in the loss of cats and oscar.

Green Terrors would be a decent match and have a look at some nice looking Plecos. They are good cleaners and are quite durable because of their spines/armor! Not likely to be eatin' by the Oscar. I would recommend a larger tank as they do grow to good sizes!
