Petland Discounts has quietly closed their doors forever. An employee that I know told me the owner passed away a couple of weeks ago and the family sold the business. Yesterday was their last day of operations.
Another Pet store/chain bites the dust.

At one point hey had like 70 locations in tristate area....largest privately owned chain of pet stores in US....
Sad to hear that, they were the only nearby (walk or bike distance) pet stores in Hudson county where I last lived in NJ. Interesting shops, kind of like a discount Petco. They got some cool fish in sometimes too.
Wow. I worked at a petland when i was a kid and had one around the corner from me as an adult, took my kids there allot. Definitely better than the chains. They actually carried fish that were interesting
