Another protein skimmer thread :/

I have a 10 gal reef tank up and running at the moment, Its mostly lps with some softies and whatnot. Most are brains. Anywho getting to the main concern, I'm getting the nice slimey layer on the top of my water from which I understand is "organic waste". I dont have a protein skimmer on here cause I didnt think I would need one if I did my weekly water changes, but tank's telling me different. So the question is...what skimmer is small enough, yet effective enough to fix this. Thanks all.
