another purigen question

ok I have 250 grams of purigen in a ac110 filter for about the last 3 weeks. 250 grams is supposed to treat 250 gallons. This is currently all set up in my 55 gallon tank. My concern is that it says it supposed to last 6 months before you regenerate it. Its only been 3 weeks and my purigen is already a burgundy/brown colour. Whats the deal here. Don't get me wrong this stuff has kept my overstocked 55 gallon crystal clear. But when should I regenerate this. When it goes really dark or at 6 montths of use?

Do you know what the nitrate levels were before you started using the Purigen? What are they now? I would think that it would be okay to recharge it now and see if takes longer to turn brown the next time...

Take the bag out and see if it's just the outside media that is changing color

well I took it out I guess its about half white half brown. I'm just going to shake it up and use it for another month before I regenerate it
