Another question about my new JD

I have noticed that once I turn the lights off he immediately starts putting sand in his mouth and has moved almost all of it to one corner of the tank. It is becoming irritating lol. Why is he/she doing this?

I want to learn about my JD as much as possible

Typical cichlid behavior.

My Midas moves all the sand from the back right corner to the front right corner every time I do a water change and "mess " it up. Pile is seriously about 10" deep at the front but the back of the tank is completely bare. Now he's moving as many rocks as he can into a pile where he's cleared it out ( as we speak). He's making all kinds of noise while doing it totally freaking out one of our dogs.

My JD does this as well. I just consider it as him making his own home in my tank.
