I started feeding my rays market shrimp and I was watching them play with the food but not eat it wondering what the hell they were doing with it under there....then I realized I can pop my head under the stand and see for myself! haha

Nice, I to like bare bottom but got tired of cleaning the algae growth off of it and also like to watch the rays sift through the substrate. What size are your rays now?

I don't seem to have any algae growth from what I've seen so far. I removed the tile bottom about a month ago when I picked up my wild caught female marble. They are both 9" (1 male/1female).

Looking to get sand in the tank sometime soon just getting over some water issues so I wanna make sure everything is good to go first. I had severely cloudy water and my rays slime coat was "peeling" due to stress but all is well now with the addition of another canister filter.

My algae growth comes from the Halide lighting......definitely give them a break and let the issues clear up. What type of sand you thinking of adding?

Well the sand I had in the tank last year when I just had 3 pups was sooo light and got kicked up into my canisters and stuck to the glass....nightmare. Looking to get something a little heavier and I also don't want a bed of sand just a small amount kind of like your tank where the glass is visible around the edges.

rays do that on substrate to

how big is your tank and rays

Thats the same way I watch my newborn pups to see if they are eating and also was able to sex them easily.
