I've just got a Red Tail Barracuda about three days ago. He looks great and I'm excited. I tried feeding him today but even after buying the smallest rosy reds (1-1.5 inches..) they're just about half if not 75% his size. He starts twitching eagerly and darts some at them but won't commit, which I'm assuming is their size in comparison.

I've gone to Petsmart, Petco, and my LFS and can't find smaller guppies or rosys than 1 inch to try. Is there something else I can try for this very juvenile RTCuda?

Just getting slightly concerned.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

I have the hikari frozen cube blood worms. Should I syringe and target him or just toss it in and let it float/dissolve at the top?

You can also try live blackworms or maybe even small crickets. If the crickets work you might be 1 of the lucky ones to get them to eat floating food sticks

I've actually had this work for me before, too; leading to floating pellets being eaten exactly as said. Try this!

I always just toss the whole thing in. I feel it works best because it puts a lot of food in the water but doens't spook the fish like a syringe might. Normally the left over is always eaten by the other fish (if present) or I just net it out when the intended fish is done eating.

Wow, loads of help. Thank you for the information!

I'll head to Petsmart tomorrow to get those tiny crickets and give it a try. If it doesn't work then bloodworms then I'll seek out blackworms. I'll edit with results, thanks!

Quick update. I found a guppy at petsmart that was at 3/4 of an inch. I tossed him into the tank and WHACK! The RTCuda swallowed him whole. I'll try the crickets/bloodworm/blackworms though in a three days when I plan to feed him again.

Here's a picture! You can kinda see the little guppy in his gut. :]
