hey mfkers i have another question about aquarium salt...i searched for like 10 mins but couldnt find anything:irked:

would this salt be ok to use in my tanks with datnoids and bichirs?

http://www.mortonsalt.com/products/watersoftner/rocksalt.html

Also, what other salt would be safe to use. I ask this because i read the package of solar salt and it said that it had some sort of additive in it...so i didnt buy it. Could you also post pics of the bag so i can look for it next time at im at home depot/lowes. Thanks

ok ok. This salt is not good for use with your fish. At all. If you use the wrong type of salt it would make your phosphate level go out the roof along with all of your other levels resulting in DEAD fish. You need to purchase some AQUARIUM SALT which will help increase the fishes slime coat and also help reduce osmotic shock. Here are some links... good luck to you

What is your reason to use salt for bichirs and datnoids? For brackish water setups wherein most dats often thrive, use marine salt. I don't however remember bichirs needing salt.

Aquarium salt is nothing more than rock salt, except that the price is jacked up through the roof because we will pay it.

The additives are naturally occurring in standard mined rock salt.

slowef the reason why i ask this question is because i want to find a cheaper alternative because one carton of that aquarium salt is 5$ where a 40lb bag of rock salt is like 10$.

lupin...ever heard of people using aquarium salt in their freshwater tanks?

thx chompers you answered my question

Same here.

You could use the salt that you provided the link to as well. The only part that even slightly concerns me is the insoluble mineral content, but I don't even see that as a serious threat.

Yes, I have and I find it rather a waste of cash in most cases which is why I pointed it out before more people waste their money simply buying salt in a fancy package at a high price. Most companies compete for nothing but profit to gain by discrediting the use of iodized table salt when it proves just as useful yet cheaper.
