Another Stowaway

I found another stowaway. What kind of snail is he?

I'm no mollusc expert but that looks like the kind of saltwater snail that is commonly seen in reef tanks.

That's not good. He's in a freshwater tank. I should take him back too than.

That snail is Clea (Anentome) helena, aka assassin snail. Fully freshwater. It feeds on other snails. It must have come as acjuvenile with something you introduced in your tank. You may find more in time but they don’t reproduce too much.

Ok good. I don't really like snails but wouldn't want to kill one. Feeding the Bettas and Corys Fluval bug bites and spirulina and have Hikari sinking carnivore pellets for the Corys. Would the snail do alright on that diet?

Cool. Now just hope he doesn't try to land on me when I'm doing something in the tank. That might not end so well.

Decided to name him Ari.

Assassin snail as others have suggested. Keeps other snail populations in check and will eat off of whatever the fish are fed. Harmless to you.

What you are thinking of is the bumblebee snail, Engina mendicaria, a saltwater snail that looks almost exactly like them. They have a smoother shell though. Funny enough, they are also known to kill other snails (specifically vermetids), I bought a few for that purpose but haven’t seen them do it. Still a beautiful part of the reef though (when the pistol shrimp doesn’t borrow them).
