I'm building a wet/dry sump for my 150gal. The plan is to convert an old 29 gal. w/ wet /dry set-up system. My question is.............. Is it gonna be big enough for my fairly well stocked SA/CA tank? Occupant of this tank will be 6 juvi Festea, 2 Firemouths, 3 Savinii, 1 large-1 small Pleco, 1 Giant Rapheal cat, 1 Spotted Pictus cat, and 2 cory cats. Current set-up is an AC 500 and AC 300, 2 300watt heaters, AC 802, and AC 301PH's.

as long as there is enough biomedia it should work ok...just make sure you get enough flow. Are you leaving your old filters too?

If its a 150gal tank, and you have a power outtage will your 29gal sump be enough to hold what drains back in?

Or you can set it up with an external pump kind of like mine.

I would personally get a cheapo 55g instead. Again, I'm the type to do everything the best way possible. A 29g is OKAY at best. Honestly, for the price of a used 55g, how can you go wrong?

Thanks for the replies. I think I might just put my 75 back together and use that instead. Because, I really don't want to have the HOB filters on the tank any longer than I have. So, I guess it's back to the Depot for more Silicone.

Any suggestions on how I should set it up? I've been looking around on-line and gotten some good ideas but not sure on which to go with. All the custom ones look a little complicated for my needs. Any suggestions on media to use would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks to all that reply and have replied already.

In my gallery there are some pix of how mine is set up, its about as simple as it gets, and works very well.

I like rubbermaid bins alot more than glass tanks as a sump. Depending on your bioload. My personal preference min. is a sump thats 1/3 of the tank.
