Anybody have direct quantifiable experience with anoxic filtration with deep substrate? I gave been reading about 5 inch sand and 8 inch gravel breaking down nitrates. I was thinking about trying 7 inches of course pool filter sand in a 30 gallon to see if it would break down some nitrates. Anybody know what i might realistically expect in 6 months? was also thinking about using a plenum under that. Any insight would be appreciated.

If you search dr Kevin Novak on YouTube it’s a whole channel focused on anoxic filtration very informative and detailed.
