I have seen some pictures on the site of an over flow system fitted to a sump that has a valve to drain water and will also drain if the sump fills up to much
I have spent the evening trying to find it again but to no evail
Has any one else seen it

Thats what i want to do i have a tank that i can trickly feed from

The open ended pipe going straight up is a syphon break. If you don't have that you will drain your sump. The lower horizontal pipe is the drain, I open that valve and I can drain my sump for maintenance. The upper horizontal pipe is the level I keep my sump water at. Just recently I added a pipe between these two to lower the water level in my sump just a bit. Depending on what valve I open sets the level in the sump. The trick is to get the water level to a point where your sump wont over flow when you lose power and there will be enough water in your sump after power is restored.

I'm not sure about the U bend section question? I do have a U shaped water trap out in the yard so bugs don't crawl into my house.

dont think I can get a water trap in as the tank is on the ground floor.
I have just put the tank up on the stand to get it out of the way for easter

This is such a slick way to solve the flood control problem.

Yeah and once you have the drain sorted all you need to do is plumb in a supply line from your house water and your set up for a fresh water trickle system. No more water changes :headbang2

Exactly. I'm using your tank and Chompers' tank as a model when I set up our centerpiece tank in our living room. I have the added problem of dealing w/ power outages. Not a big deal if you have public water. However, I'm on a well and we lose power for hours at a time maybe twice a year. I'll need a normally closed valve when the power fails to keep from exhausting the fresh water supply when the power is out.
