Has anyone used any of these products with discus or for that matter any other fish? The products "say" that they are not topic to tropical fish but I am skeptical.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Most of the liquid algaecide products contain copper, I think. They're probably not good for your fish long-term and improper dosing could kill them. Is there a reason you would rather go with that over scrubbing/bristlenose plecos?

I have been doing a lot of research into discus recently because I want a large discus tank eventually. From what I can gather, discus depend a lot of where you get them from. Speak with the breeder or seller if you can and find out what their recommendations are. But if you can't, my personally recommendation would be that discus are sensitive to anything that changes their water chemistry, so I would not risk it. Like Ryan said, just scrub the tank well and/or get a bristlenose pleco (keep an eye on the pleco as some of them develop a taste for the slime coat of other large fish and discus would present a fairly large target).

Have you tried controlling your algae via lower or shorter lighting period, do you feed beefheart a lot??

I have used anti hair algae products with discus with no problems, however if you keep discus properly the algae shouldn't be there in the first place, referring to low nitrates and lights that aren't too bright, you could dose with liquid carbon and add tannins

I use to have a pretty good problem with green water in my 72G discus tank. I was using a coralife T5 Dual bulb set with two Hagen Power GLO T5 18,000K (pinkish bulb) and a bare bottom tank. After about 1 day or so of about a 98% water change the green water started to return. I tried a couple of alge/green water products to try to get rid of the green water, but no matter what I did it still came back. So I decided to try a little experiment. I kept the tank lights off for a week to see what would happen. And gosh dammit no more green water. No I knew that I didn't want to keep the tank lights off cause I wanted to be able to enjoy the tank. So I ended up putting on the basic single fluorescent light fixture that came with the tank, and have had no more issues since. Heck I even stopped using any alge products...........
